Doerak

1993 - 2021

It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Doerak. He was humanely euthanized in early February 2021 due to complications from Cushing's and autoimmune Pemphigus. He was a handsome, deep black star gelding who had a big goofy personality and an even bigger heart. He loved all kinds of sweets, especially peppermints, and hated Bute. He didn't like shots and could tell from a mile away if there were supplements in his grain. He loved belly scratches and gave the best hugs. He was never shy about expressing his opinions or feelings about something and he knew how to bow. He was best friends with Xena, and tolerated pesky foals. He loved children, as he believed that they were his own personal treat dispensers. He was both a big baby and the most stoic horse we've ever known. For such a large horse, he could still spin and bolt just as fast as a smaller one. He hated dressage, but shined so brightly in exhibitions and parades. He was afraid of everything in the ring, but so brave on the trails. He was the best teacher, my dearest friend and my rock through tough times.

I loved you all your life, and I will so greatly miss you all of mine.

Sander 269 x Lammert 260
1993 Ster Gelding
16.1 hands

Ster and Model Preferent mare lines as well as the famous preferent stallions Hearke and Mark. He has the classic Friesian looks with a phenomenal personality.

Doerak came to Black Magic Farms as a weanling and while more baroque in build than our other Friesians, he has never failed to show us that Friesian can do dressage. While severe arthritis cut his career in the dressage ring short, Doerak is the epitome of the perfect ambassador for the breed. His gentle nature and calm composure allow him to excel in exhibitions and parades. He has a great affinity for children and is more than happy to stand quietly for treats when they come to visit the farm. He also enjoys trail rides and loves traveling through forests and meadows, helping youngsters gain strength and security. Currently 29 years old, with lots of gray hair, he enjoys being the old man of the barn and supervising everyone, and raising young foals, all while trolling for treats.
